Foyn Johnson house is a significant house design done by Harrisons and White, the well known architects and geographically present in Australia in the suburb of Northcote, Melbourne. The key issues of house constructions have been considered while designing the house, especially the aspects of use of sunlight in Australian houses due to right design in the upcoming constructions and prevailing constructions as well. Preservation of light source in the space of garden is the theme around which the design revolves. The garden areas are considerably compromised because of increasing space being allocated for houses and the blocks are becoming smaller in space. However, light falls into the garden uninterruptedly the whole day and that is a fundamental feature of a garden.
The reverse shallow casting method is used in the architectural design which makes it unique. The open space which exposes the sunlight into the house and extrudes the movement of sun in its different paths is considered in the design theme. The barn like structure goes up to 8 meters height at the maximum and controls the sunlight exposure. The deck and the western façade are covered by the external screen surface created in this process.
